Woo hoo..anyhow, I need to go get a nice handgun to carry. I have a 9mm Ruger right now that is way to big to conceal...Need ideas from people..I am thinking a nice small .45. New or used? Model? Thanks

i bought a handgun a ruger security six its a 357 magnum with a 6 inch barrel. brand new, chrome with a black rubber grip. i paid 300 dollars. did i over pay? whats it worth?

Ok, so I'm looking for a gun for security purposes. I have a Ruger .357 mag right now. I know, it's extremely intimidating and effective if it hits, but I'm looking for something else. I'm debating between a semi-auto handgun or shotgun with pistol grip and 18" barrel. I'm looking at a 1911 or a Walther P99, but don't have much knowledge of shotguns. Any suggestions and opinions are appreciated.
A couple additions... I have a pit/boxer 100lb dog, so getting a dog is not an issue. And second, I want a "movie" gun (shotgun with short barrel) because it's easily maneuverable in closed areas. Any opinions on the guns I've been looking at? I haven't gotten any advice on those, just curious what others think.
Yes I know my Ruger. I just don't want to be limited to 6 shots. I have speed loaders, but a semi auto handgun or shotgun makes more send. Enough said

Question 1: Do I HAVE to show a utility bill to get a rifle (I know its yes for handguns but for rifles?) One dealer I asked said yes, but the guy doesn't sound very honest, so I thought it might not be same with others.

Question 2: If the address of my California Driver's License is not current. (I moved about 2 years ago, same county, DMV has been notified) can I still get it or do I need a new card?

Please note I am buying a Ruger 10/22 so don't include handgun stuff please.

I have a 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 revolver. Now I'm just looking for something to shoot for cheap. I was looking at a sig mosquito but the one I rented had feeding problems even with CCI mini-mags.

What guns do you guys think are good? How's the P22 and Ruger Mark pistols? Did I leave something out? Maybe a revolver.

What would be a good asking price for the following handguns?

Baby Desert Eagle 9MM?

Ruger Blackhawk .44 Mag Revolver?

Looked up the price for them new, but what would be a good price for a used gun sold person to person? i.e. guns not stolen or used in any criminal activity...please advise...
...they were owned by a US Ranger who is no longer with us, and his girlfriend is in need of money...
...thanks everyone...I got the 9mm sold for her...she only wanted $250...it went quick...us Soldiers and exMilitary, I guess are gun nuts...I would have bought them, but my wife says I have too many hand guns...I am going to buy a rifle soon before I can't...

I have a Steyr AUG, two Draganovs imported from Colombia, a 10/22 Bullpup and several handguns, mostly Ruger and Glock.

My fave is the AUG.

I'm not sure what to get for a dependable and easy to conceal handgun Conceal Carry. Right now I own three hand guns, I have a Ruger GP100 357 magnum revolver (way too big for CCW), A Ruger P89DC 9mm (too fat for CCW), and then a little Hi-Point C9 which is a smaller gun lengthwise, but it's actually fatter than my P89DC!
I like the look of the Bersa Thunder, but have never shot one. Is this a good reliable pistol, or do you have any other suggestions?
Thanx!

I would like a smaller handgun, however a Ruger LCP .380 may be too small.

Thank you in advance for you advice.

i am a california resident, active duty and stationed in another state. Can i purchase a Handgun Ruger LCP 380 and if i go back to california can i import it to california ? Also what about a High capacity Handgun?

My collection will soon either include a Ruger MKIII Bull barrel, Ruger KP345PR, Buckmark, or some relatively cheap 1911.

The .22 pistols aren't as fun IMHO, but they have a good place in a mid-volume shooters collection. I have tried several MKII and MKIIIs, they just don't get me as excited as the centerfires.

I have always liked the Ruger KP345, good price, comfort, comes with safeties, has a decocker, low recoil, accurate, strong frame, but I think .45 is kinda expensive. I also like the KP345 because it is easy for CCW, and it has that DA/SA trigger which is big plus for me in home defense or CCW. If it came in 9mm, then I'd be all over it. I also have a 1911 made by RIA, love the design and low recoil, but mine is in .38super. So I might sell it (ammo is way harder to find for .38sueper than even .380) to fund this new gun. I was thinking if I am able to find a good RIA or Springfield GI for sub 500$, that would be in consideration.

i want to buy a ruger mkiii678... but all the websites i come across dont have them in stock and all my local gun dealers dont have what i want. any suggestions on where to look or how to get one?
all the sites you mentioned are all out of stock

I live in Alabama. I want to purchase a Integral Suppressed Ruger MKII, SRT professional. (NV)...but before I do I wanted to know the laws about it or whether or not it is in fact legal to own a Silenced handgun. If so, how do I acquire a license for it? As much information as I can receive would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a woman and I weigh about 125 lbs. I'm not worried about the handling, I was in the Army before and have shot M-16's. But I've never owned/shot a handgun before; and am unsure what would be a good weapon for me.

I've been looking into a Ruger SR-9 for quite some time. Any insight???

(I know this is probably the wrong section, but I wouldn't be using it for hunting OR outdoor recreation)

I'm about to have a baby and I'm going to trade in my GP-161 for something I feel, is a little safer. Not a gun collector but do need that one handgun (plus my locked up shotgun)

Of course I'll keep it in a safe but a pull of the trigger and boom scares the crap out of me with a child around. At least with a pistol there is some work involved in figuring out how to use it.

SO, I'm looking at a couple pistols. The Beretta 92FS, The Beretta PX4 storm, CZ 75 (I've owned one of these so it's not as exciting for me), Walther P99 or the Smith M&P (9mm)

Out of these, what do you think?

Also I was looking at the new Ruger SR9? I haven't been a big fan of Ruger Auto's but this one's new.
No Mountain Man. Justin is a man's name. I didn't say I was going to give birth. I said I was having a baby. Put down the Coors light.

Springfield XD seems to be a real good one
Ruger SR9 is excellent but only comes in 9mm
Glock 17 is a well proven gun, but I'm not yet convinced its the best.
Sig P220 is good but a bit on the expensive side (and has a fat grip)
I don't know a lot about Para-Ordnance, but it seems ok.
And its impossible to find a plain and straight 1911 anywhere.
I'm looking for something to backpack with (The greenies insist we keep the wolves in the NW and now they're out of control with 400+ just in my county..) so I need something light, but also good for personal home defense.
I don't really like the 9mm, its ok if necessary but I prefer something larger like a .40 or .45
What do you guys think, recommend, what are your opinions? Any comments are welcome.

hello im looking in to buying a handgun to protect my house because there's been 6 home invasion robberies on my street this month alone, i looked on line and i really like the ruger p90 i think it was a 45. i was told those have some nice "stopping power" so is there any other handguns i should take a look at with better "s.p." then that 1....THANKS

Need advice on this. I am recently going to purchase a new handgun. I have narrowed my search down to the Ruger P95, and the S&W Sigma 9mm. I like the design of both, I have heard that the trigger for the Sigma is a hard pull, and have read a few posts about it breaking all together. I haven't seen any bad reviews about the Ruger. I need help with the pros and cons about each one. And also an expected price if you can. Thanks in advance, Nick

It is a small handgun amd my hands are medium to large. Would that me a problem with controlling the gun?
Would that BE a problem?

For weeks now I've been looking for some 9mm ammo for my Ruger. I've hit local stores as well as calling up Cabela's all with the same response which is: sorry, we're all out. Are people going into stores and buying up any and all handgun ammo they can get their hands on or what? I understand once we got a democrat into office that ammo would pretty much fly off the shelves for the first couple months until supply caught up with demand. But now it's over a half year since he got in and still the same thing. What gives? Man, I'd love to be working for Federal or Remington in the ammunition dept. Those people gotta be pulling like 2 shifts back-to-back. LOL. Thanks

I'm looking to make my first handgun purchase, and I'm trying to get an idea on what kind of prices I should be willing to pay for. I'm pretty set on a Ruger P90 in .45 auto (unless you have a suggestion for another US manufactured handgun with similar features, price, and quality), however I don't have access to any blue book data on pricing. How much should I expect to pay for this used, but in decent condition? The second part of my question deals with my location. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and have been having a heck of a time finding recommendations for reliable places to shop in the area. I'd say probably somewhere within maybe 20 miles of the city or so.
As simple as an answer as that was, gunbroker.com was actually really helpful. I especially liked their list of FFL holders in the area by zip code, as there were far more dealers near me than I realized. Thanks.

I let my co-worker borrow my handgun for home protection. He's 19 years old and has a spot-free police record. I let him borrow my Ruger .22 pistol today so he could protect his new home from recent burglaries. He lives in the backwoods but still in city limits. His wife fired the gun one time and the police showed up with guns drawn and took my gun as evidence and cited him for reckless endangerment. My question is how much trouble will he get in? (He's a newly ordained pastor just-married and no trouble with the law) How will I get my gun back? The cop told him he may not get it back. Any help will be appreciated.

This March I will be 21 and where I live in Virginia that is how old you must be to own a handgun or have a concealed weapons permit.

I was thinking about getting a little something to keep on me when I am in sketchy neighborhoods. I really like the Ruger .380 LCP. It is small, easily concealed, cheap, has good fire power, a decent caliber, and you can get a laser sight that attaches to the trigger guard. (Bad Ass!!!)

Newayz, on to my question. If I am ever pulled over and I have my firearm on me, should I immediately tell the officer that I have a weapon in my possesion and that I have a permit? Or should I let it go unless he searches me?

Also, if I am ever searched (in any situation other than passing through airport or any other kind of security) can anyone rightfully, lawfully take my weapon from me if I haven't done anything wrong?

Like, if I am pulled over for speeding (never been pulled over BTW) and the officer asks me to step out of my car and searches me or the car and finds my gun, can he take it from me legally?

I am wondering what some of the most Accurate and Inaccurate Pistols are...

I was going to ask "Is it the Gun, or the Shooter?" But Reconsidered ebcause a Professional Experienced shooter with a GOOD Pistol can be a better shot than one with a Pistol that sucks (Beretta 92FS vs. Hi-Point Saturday Night Special kind of thing)

So.... WHich is which? Thanks!

Im starting to get into the Glocks, Berettas, and SIGs (Not so much but a little, thats a Police Gun, the P226) -- and I always have wondered about the Colt "Series 70" 1911s and the Rugers, some people looove Ruger P90s some thing Ruger is a POS... ?????

Ok im looking at getting a 9mm preferably. But here are the guns i have come down to.
Springfield XDm
Springfield XD
Glock 19
Sig 226
Sig 226 blackwater
Ruger SR9
Smith and wesson m&p 9
I also thought about a .357 but thers only one i like and its the
Ruger GP100.
P.S I can prob afford a budget of 8-900 dollars i want it to be really durable and really accurate. Probably will put a flashlight on it. Will Be used for plinking and home defense. Dont tell me to not get the 9mm i have decided already that i want to get a 9mm.

i really dont need another 9mm handgun but is 500 a good price for a 92fs? i currently have a ruger p85 for a 9mm pistol. not too fancy i know. beretta comes with 3 clips. whats your thoughts?

Which 9mm handgun is better in terms of accuracy, reliability, and overall performance?
Between these two, which would you choose?

Looking for reliability and only in a rimfire round handgun. Not looking for a Buckmark, Ruger Mark III, etc.-- great guns but too "targety." Something like a Beretta Bobcat or Taurus, but I'm concerned about their reliablity (or lack thereof). Revolver or auto is OK. Old is fine too, but the smaller, the lighter, and the more reliable, the better. What to look for?

I'm most interested in these ten. I am looking for something that carries at least 15 rounds, is lightweight, easy to conceal, and is made of excellent quality for a price that won't make me go broke.
Please rank from best to worst.

1. Glock-19
2. FNP-9
3. Sig P-250
4. Springfield XD-9
5. Ruger SR-9
6. Walther PPS
7. Smith & Wesson M&P-9
8. Taurus 24/7 PRO
9. Beretta 92fs
10. Beretta Px4 Storm
Which is most accurate

Ruger? My main concern is which name brand fire arm doesn't Jam or misfire very much and is it normal for a semi auto to jam or misfire? Which one of these name brands would you pick or prefer for yourself? Keep in mind I am looking for one that doesn't jam or misfire very much. Any advice is dually appreciated.

brands I am looking for the one that doesn't have high reports of Jamming or misfiring and is built to last.

As most of you probably already know, I'm still doing research for my first handgun buy. If a handgun turns out to be crap (ie. misfeeds, jams, etc) would I be able to send it back to the manufacturer and tell them to fix it? Let's use the Ruger SR9 as an example. Some people have said that it has a lot of misfeeds. If I get one, and it has a lot of misfeeds, would ruger fix it? Or would I basically be on my own?
How about other manufacturers? Are there any that don't help out if the pistol malfunctions?

Based on your recommendations, here is the list that I came up with so far:

Sig P250
Ruger SR9/P95
Glock 17, 19 (C)
Springfield XD-9/XD-M
Beretta 92FS, 90two
CZ 75 and variants
FNP9
Taurus Millennium Pro
S&W Sigma

Does anyone have any objections with this list? Are there any that I should add or subtract? If so, why?

Toying with the idea of having my Ruger Super Blkwk 44 mag w/10.5 barrel Magna-ported with the quad pattern, trying to eliminate recoil rise a tad. Anyone dealt with Magna-Port Company or had this done, or is possible to have a Valis pattern on a handgun?
I Absolutely do not want to affect accuracy. Or resale value of the weapon.
.700 Nitro , understand all that, have contacted some shops have prices....looking for anyone with "hands on" experience with porting done to handguns.
700 Nitro meant no disrespect, was referring to some one who has had it done to a 44 mag, before and after differences.
Niteracer, paid $300 for mine, one box ran thru it, custom grips.
Nitro read the links..thanks
Thanks Glacierwolf, in the attempt to increase recovery time, I shoot coyotes with this weapon, many times on the run....was looking to just get a 1/2 second jump on the next shot.
I am 6-2 at 225, don't think manning up is the issue, it is perfecting the abilitiy. If I lived where ya'll do, I would have a larger handgun....big pedators here in Texas don't exist, unless they walk on two legs and shave their faces.

I have to admit, they give me the hooboo geebees! When we go camping I pack a Ruger Vaquero in .45colt for just this reason(local bears are black bears and we take precautions to keep them away...Haven't seen one yet). But Mountain lions are constant sightings. Once I had to squeeze off a shot to get one to scamper away. Yet they're becoming increasingly bolder and are not necessarily resigned to wait until we vamoose to scavenge the campsite. Hence the aforementioned shot. Basically they're loosing their fear of people.
My query involves the best round for this that I may have already. I own two .45ACP's a 9mm and the .45colt. I only use the Vaquero because the round has similar properties in ft lbs to a .357 mag. Yet it's slow and if the mountain lion doesn't get out of dodge from a warning shot I want to be able to follow up semi-auto style.
I'm thinking of the .45ACP due to a quick overview of a Remington ballistics table, but would like opinions and if possible first hand accounts.
BTW, I know I could upgrade to a .500SW as some would suggest but were only talking a 100-150lb cat not a 900lb grizzly! I am also not interested in hunting them just scaring them off. But if they don't get the hint I want to feel confident that a round will have the ability to cease their forward movement permanently!
"A gun...what a wimp! I love these MANLY camper guys who need a gun to fend off Mountain Lions and Bears."
Hopefully you DO travel around the mountains w/ only a stick. That'll do humankind a favor by allowing you to remove yourself from the gene pool!
"do you care what the gun looks like, i.e, like a Classic gun or polymers?"
Nah, As far as I'm concerned a gun is just a launching system for a bullet. I'm just looking for ballistics/range/portability opinions here.

I will be turning 18 in a couple of days, and I would like to buy a handgun sometime after. I've already fired handguns before, like my uncle's ruger mark III, his glock 17, and a variety of riffles and shotguns. I'd like to start off with a .22 handgun, mainly because I just want to use it for target practice, but also because they're fairly cheap. I was looking at a few, like the Smith and Wesson 22A, or the Sig Mosquito. I'm trying to steer away from the ruger, mainly because when I shot my uncles, it tended to jam up quite a bit. Thanks in advance! Also, I'm not buying a rifle because i already own an old .22 riffle which i use for target practice.

OK my wife and I both really enjoying shooting. We started of with 9mm's (3 of them) and a .45. Then we added the Ruger BlackHawk .44 mag...and yesterday got an AK-47.

What I am trying to find out are your suggestions for guns that would be fun for us to shoot, but won't break the bank. So far we have not spent more than $600 on a gun (the gun store had a LOT of AK's and had a $200 off sale so I got this one for 500 ). I am willing to go a bit higher (maybe $800 or $900 ) for something really good but would rather stick with around $500.

So what do you suggest both for handguns and long guns, that would just be fun for us to shoot?

I have a 357 Mag Revolver 6" barrel Ruger GP100. I am considering using it for deer. Iowa lets you use a handgun during Muzzleloader season. I would use Double Tap Ammo. Known for more power than other factory ammo. The Law states a hollowpoint bullet, but am also considering a heavier lead cast bullet if DNR says OK. Of course range would be limited to no more than 30 maybe 40 yards, and would try to draw in as close as possible. Seems like it would be a good challenge, but I want to make a clean kill. Just looking for input.

I am working to restore my T-54 Tokarev handgun, and researched any possibilities of refinishing my gun. I am going to use Brownell's Aluma-hyde II, and they have Gloss Ruger Gray as a color. However, I have no idea what that looks like, and their color pictures don't even show it.

Is there a site or picture of a gun that would closely match this color?

okay, so i am turning 16 soon, and i am looking at getting a .22 caliber handgun. my dad will get it for me for me to "own".and possess. it wont be my holster gun, that resides with my CZ 75B. but for maybe a "back up" or something, or just a target handgun, i want to know what is viewed as some of the best. i have looked at browning, cz, walther, ruger, and a few others. which would be the best functioning and most reliable? and can you tell me what the cost is? and can you give me the link please? also....(i know a lot of Q's) i would like to know if you have any other suggestions for a .22 pistol?
thanks a ton!
my dad will buy it for me, hence birthday and present. he can give it to me legally in Idaho with his consent, and a signed document. and i still live in the house so it is perfectly legal.
carytop
i just like shooting out at the range.
i also enjoy girls and cars and other guy stuff
shooting out at the range is just a fun hobby. there is nothing scary about it at all. just answer the question please and not some smart dumb remark. thank you.

Which ones do you like and why?

I have a Taurus .45 and I was happy with both accuracy and the power. But today I got myself a Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum...much more power, and more accurate. I frankly love it. The .44 mag impact I like, and the ruger's grip/feel, accuracy, etc. is very satisfying.

What higher caliber handguns do you prefer, and why?

Tuarus PT945 .45 ACP Taurus PT92 AF 9mm
Taurus Single Action .357 Magnum/.38 Special
Ruger Single Action .22LR/.22Mag

I've seen the rugers smooth polymer, the injection polymer of glocks, and some other stuff, which is the best? Whats glass filled polymer (ruger LCP)?

Hi

I recently tried a friends Ruger Old Army cap and ball revolver and enjoyed using it so I had a look to see how much they are to buy but read that they are no longer made, damn.

Does anyone know why Ruger stopped making them and is there any chance that they will ever start producing them again and if not is there any other black powder revolvers available that are anywhere near as good as the Ruger in build quality?

I live in the UK and because of tight gun laws are not allowed to own cartridge handguns so for us black powder is as good as it gets.

Thanks
Midge.

I'm always amazed by how many people are criticized for wanting a 44 mag in Y/A because it's too big for self defense, even though they never mentioned in their question anything about self defense. Maybe they want it for hunting, or collecting, or just to have. I own several firearms. Some for hunting (gotta love that Browning 338 win mag, not to mention too many others to list), some target rifles (220 swift that'll shoot through the same hole all day, among others), a few hand-me-downs from relatives (these are special guns to me that I would never let go), some just for the heck of it (my 416 rigby comes to mind), a few milsurps (the beginning of an ever increasing collection) and even a handgun I conned my wife into buying me instead of a wedding ring (Ruger Super Redhawk 454 Casull in case you are wondering). I have never bought a gun with the intention of having to use it to defend my family, but I have a few that could be pressed into service if the need arose (12 gauge Benelli Nova and a Springfield XD40 Tactical come to mind). So my question to you, why do you own firearms? Is it a collecting thing, hunting, defense, plinking, target shooting, just because it is your right, or any other reason (like we really need a reason).

i am looking at the glock17, glock 22, springfield xd 40 cal, and the ruger sr9

i would have a dual purpose with the gun. i would use it for both open carry and home defense
im 21. this handgun would be my first. i work in very high crime area of atlanta, and i would feel much more cxomfortable with a good pistol

near the place i work at is very densely black populated. sometimes they come up and knock on your window for money
like when your sitting at a stop sign or stop light
im not a racist but if you are white in that part of town you will be asked constantly
and a target.

I can't find .380 ammo anywhere these days. When I ask store owners why, they generally say the same thing: it's because Obama was elected! Only one person gave what seemed like a more rational reason - that the Ruger came out with an extremely popular .380 carry gun and that is why there is a shortage of .380 ammo. I hate to think that people are ignorant enough to be hoarding ammo just because Obama was elected. Yet, I think this may be the main reason why we are short on ammo these days. Obama has already said he's going to respect legal gun owners' rights. Even if he didn't say that, he clearly has much bigger things to worry about, but I guess some people will believe whatever they want to believe no matter how much contrary evidence you throw their way. Ultimately, I think we are short on ammo now because so many gun owners have irrational fears. What do you all think?
