compact handguns

Hey, We went to the Bullzeye range today and I kept having some sort of funky issue with my gun. The slide kept locking back after a few shots and.40S&W is more powerfull than 9mm, lighter and more compact than 45acp, and will do anything a pistol packer in the miltary needs. No matter what design pistol the military gets, 80-90% will not be able to hit anything with it beyond ...a? Place Super Compact 2500d, a? Stackable Super Compact Handguns, a? Compact 38 Super. a? Freezers a?, a? Jack a?, a? Office a?, a? Products a?, a? Pem31dmbb a?, a? Tra a?, a? Order a?, a? Choice a?, a? Cnet a?, a? Super Compact ...The Colt Commander and Officer's models, as well as the multitude of variants such as the Para Ordinance, Detonics (back in the day) and the many other brands of compact 1911 based pistols. Just looking for something to.This gun is not so compact, it is very large when being compared to other compact handguns. I would like a 1911 or a sub-compact in either 9mm, .45, or .44 mag. Any suggestions?

I love the simplicity of Glock handguns. Point and shoot.
I have a Glock 23 (bought it a few years ago for my home).
I am intrested in a second one. Either full size or compact.
What caliber should I consider. I have shot a model 17 before, no negatives there. But, the alure of a .45 has me wanting to go big. Then there is the .357 sig. So many choices....

I like the weight and size of Kel Tec PF-9 but I DONT like how it has no external safety (I dont use my Glock for this very reason)

So I was wondering are there any handguns that are similar in weight & size to the 9mm PF-9 Kel-Tec that have a safety?

Sold the big .357 and now I'm going to get an auto. Having kids around and a point and click gun makes me nervous (no comments about kids and guns, I understand they need to be locked up). A semi seems slightly more safe, at least there's strength involved in getting the thing loaded.

That said, I want ONE handgun (along with my locked up shotgun). 9mm and I've narrowed it down, but please let me know if you have any other opinions. The other things I need are manual safety or de-cocker, and not TOO big, prefer compact.

Here's the list:
Beretta PX4 Storm, FNH 9, Smith M&P, Walther P99, Beretta 92FS (I know this one's a bit big). CZ P-01 (I had one of these once, great gun)

Especially give me your opinion on the FN, I've haven't done a lot of research on these. Respected handgun?

Any other opinions? I was leaning towards the PX4. What do you guys think??
@HC

Good point. Are you referring to an XD?
Yes, I've thought of a gun vault. Part of the reason for selling the revolver is also just having something new to shoot. But the revolver always made me a little nervous.

For those of you who have multiple handguns, and those that don't, have you ever given any thought about acquiring handguns based on various needs. For instance, I've acquired the following:

For plinking: a 22 semi-auto
For home defense: .357 revolver
If you had to go into combat: a .45 ACP semi-auto
For concealed carry: a compact 9mm.

Do you approach this in a similar manner? If so, what choices did you make? Did you have other categories I never thought of. Do you have 1 gun that fills multiple roles?

my cousin just got robbed and i was wondering wats a good fire arm to buy? ps i do own other guns but none are for home protection(hunting rifles x2 , Assult rifle x1 , handgun x2 but not for home protection use )

ive been thinking about
these guns

FN five seven - 20 rounds 5x7
HK Mark 23 - 12 rounds 45 ACP
HK USP compact - 13 rounds 9x19 perebellum

if not tell me other good guns to look at

and i know how to shoot guns, no recoil is to strong just list a couple of handguns thank you :)

I'm thinking about buying a Glock. I want a .40 because in New Jersey you can't have magazines over 15 rounds and I'd be stuck with 10 round magazines. I guess a Glock 19 would also be okay.

I guess my question is: are the size differences really that big a deal. Is accuracy or handling affected? I don't have any compact handguns but I'm not going to conceal carry. All my guns are used at the pistol range.

I am looking into buying a handgun for practice and concealed carry. I have bben considering a Glock 27 and a Compact Smith and Wesson M&P .40. Any other guns similar would be considered. I have shot the normal size Smith and Wesson m&p .40. I thought it was good however, I have never shot a different handgun before.

i am considering buying a handgun for some backup while hunting this fall, but i can't decide whether to get the glock 37, which is chambered for the 45 gap or the glock 20 which is chambered for the 10mm Norma. i decided the glock 37 would be better than the glock 21 because it is more compact but it appears that the 10mm round in the glock 20 has more energy and velocity so i think it would have more knock down power.
i am aware that no handgun is suited for primary defense against a bear. but my rifle is a 300 win. mag and i am paranoid that i may not have time to get it off my shoulder in time to drop a bear and where i hunt (north Idaho), there is a lot of brush so a rifle would not be very effective any way because my big old weatherby is kind of cumbersome. therefore i was thinking a handgun would be better suited for my circumstances. i know that a revolver would be better for actual stopping power because they are generally chambered for larger calibers but i am kinda turned off by revolvers because i would like to get an all-in-one "people defense" handgun and an animal one too. and i think the glock would be much better suited for stopping me from getting robbed than an old revolver.

The requirements are it needs to be compact, hold 7 or more rounds, be either a 9mm,.40, .44, or .45, relatively accurate, it need's to have good aftermarket parts like rubber handgrips and flashlights. I was looking at the Walther P99C but when I test fired it I noticed it lacked a little bit, something just didn't feel right about it. I've fired a Colt 1911 .45ACP before and loved it, but it's just a little big for what I need and I really didn't like the sights on it. I need nightsights. I was looking at a USP too but a lot of people have said those are very large chunky guns and I have kindof small hands, and reccomendation. Price tag needs to be at or below 1500$ though. Thanks :-)

I like the feel of the .40S&W round It's got just enough kick for fun on the range but not so much that it wouldnt be useful in my house.

I am looking to trade my Glock 19 (9mm) for a Taurus pt145 (.45) for my everyday carry handgun. I have just heard so many bad things about the 9mm that it almost scares me to carry it. Whether it be the "lack of punch", or the overpenetration of the round. I have heard great things about the 45 and also, it is a sub compact pistol as well. Thank you

i recently purchased springfield xdm as my first handgun. i love it. only have a couple hundred rounds in it. this weekend i am purchasing a beretta 92fs.
in a couple weeks i am taking my conceal and carry course and then i will be able to carry in minnesota. i was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on a good gun for carrying? im kinda looking at the springfield sub-compact or maybe the walther pps. also, anyone have a crossbreed iwb holster? ive heard good things about them and will probably be purchasing one unless i hear otherwise.

I live in Brooklyn, NY. I have a mint-condition (only been fired twice) Smith & Wesson CS9 compact handgun. It is about 7 or 8 years old. I bought it in my neighborhood gun shop for $500.
Also how would I transfer my handgun license to a new owner?

P.S- Please don't answer by telling my to talk to my local police precinct. I know that already. That is why I am asking here first, which is easier and is less hassle than to contact the police precinct.

I live in Texas, and have a Concealed Handgun License. I will be flying out to California to help my parents move back to Georgia. I would like to bring my pistol so that once we cross into Arizona, I can carry it in accordance with my CHL. I know I can't "carry" it in California, but I don't mind keeping it locked up for the < 10 hours I'll be there.

I know how to properly fly with my handgun, I do it all the time, but never into California. I know they have some CA DOJ Approved list that your gun must meet to bring it into the state. Mine's a Smith & Wesson M&P compact, .40 and a Kel-Tec P11 9mm (BUG), if that helps.

I know there's a federal law that says you're supposed to be able to travel anywhere with your gun as long as its legal in the origin and destination, but I'm not sure how that applies when I'm traveling West in order to go East.

The intended focus of this question is the legality of bringing my aforementioned pistols into California for less than one day, assuming I comply with their "separate locks" requirements, etc.

Oh, and my apologies that this isn't exactly a hunting question. It was here, or "Law & Ethics," which would almost certainly result in responses of "Go away evil gun owner," etc.

Thanks to all, -Tex

would like to know if the 9mm sccy or skyy is a good gun or is it a pice of junk someone has one for sale wants $250 comes with holster & mag holder

Compact, easy to maintain and nicely-designed weapons with little recoil, accurate for just 10 - 20metres distance?

Can one disable a burglar with two or three pellets from an air-rifle(.22?) ?

Thanks for your kind and helpful inputs! :-))

Hi, I'm 18 and getting a pistol for protection. I was robbed at gunpoint a few months back..anyways, my state allows me to own a handgun and it doesn't have to be registered, no permit needed, and no license. Which one is more intimidating? The revolver im looking at is a small short barreled .38. the semi auto is a compact 9mm. thanks
alaska. but since im under 21, i can only by from non licensed dealers
justin- it's kind of like a loophole in the system, but perfectly legal. federal law prohibits me buying a handgun from a licensed dealer, but a private transaction is perfectly fine. like from the newspaper, gun show, etc.. I have also been told by some gun dealers that i can carry one too. in my state you dont have to register the gun, so it wont be connected to ANYONE'S name..
i held a springfield xd and xdm yesterday. nice guns. too expensive. also checked out some hecklar and koch or however you spell it

anyone own a high point handgun?? thinking about getting one .i know-ya get what you pay..bla bla ...I like .380s& 9s compact.I dont shoot all the time like some of you pro s. but i like to keep my eyes inline.couple times a year at range, couple times elesweres. I do hunt alittle but not with handguns.

I am looking (FINALLY) to purchase my nest weapon. Now that I live in a carrying state I would like to purchase a good carry weapon. I currently carry a full size S&W 9mm. There are three viable options that I am looking at:
S&W M&P 40 cal
Springfield XD9 40 cal
Glock 27 40 cal
All are compact models. I just looked at the S&W today and really like it. All are about the same price, I just do not konw which to buy. Can anyone provide some feedback on any of these weapons and help me make my choice? I appreciate it!

Wanted to see what others thought about the following guns for concealed handgun. I've handled (not shot) all of these guns and I like the feel and size of all of them, just wanted to know if there was anything others didn't like.
Kahr P40, S&W M&P 40c, S&W M&P357c, Walther PPS, Springfield XD40 Compact, Springfield XD40 Sub Compact.
Thanks

where can l see how to build this handgun
l have a frame and l wanna build it ..is a project
and l wanna know where all the part go ..thx u,.

I just purchased a new handgun and need a holster for it. I like the paddle holster or an inside the waistband holster. I want to be able to carry easily in the summer and don't want to ruin the finish on the gun. I want to know which type of holster works best with this model of gun, I would prefer somebody who owns one. Thanks.

I am turning 21 in a few months and am trying to decide on a handgun to buy. I have narrowed it down to a few choices so far and was wondering if anyone that owned these guns could tell me a little bit about what you think (pros and cons), not crap like "the glock will never break!". I know that obviouslly but I am never going to throw it off a mountain or drive over it with a pick-up or bury it in mud. I am just going to use it for target shooting and personal defense. So here are the guns:

Glock- did not decide which model, either full size or compact, and either 9mm or .40 cal.

Springfield XDM- same, either 9mm or .40 cal.

Taurus 24/7 OSS Tactical- .45ACP, 5.25 in barell, 12+1 round capacity

I am leaning more towards the Taurus just because it feels best holding it in my hands but I have heard that some are lemons and do not work right. However they have a lifetime warranty and people say that once they send them back to get fixed then they shoot great. If I do get a .45 or a .40 then I will probably get a 9mm down the road for something cheaper to shoot. Thanks in advance for your opinion.

is it easy to clean and to take a part and how many time should it be cleaned

WHO MAKES A DECENT ONE THAT IS LIGHT ANS COMPACT? P.S DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND DISCREET / unnoticeable HANDGUN?

Hey there. I'm not new to shooting, but most of my experience involves AR's and handguns since I am former military. I'm looking for an entry-level bolt rifle, mostly for target use but which could also take a deer if I decide to start hunting. I'd prefer to spend $600-700 so that I have some cash left for good optics. I'm leaning toward .308 because ammo prices and recoil are reasonable. I try to avoid "exotic" rounds in my firearms.

I was originally leaning toward the Remington 700, but today I was reading up on the Tikka rifles and they seem to be getting pretty amazing reviews. I also like the Ruger compact series. It's a bit above my price range but if I decide it's the superior choice, I just might spring for it.

Any tips are appreciated. I'd prefer comments from folks who actually own a rifle of the sort I described, not someone like me who's just read a bunch of reviews. Thanks in advance!

Im looking to purchase a new handgun but this time a more customized one. I don't want a compact handgun or a revolver. It needs to be long enough to put a scope on the top of it and a laser sight on it also. Preferably something more high powered then my 357. Silver look if possible not black. Any Recommendations??
I guess it doesn't have to be more powerful then my 357. But I don't want a revolver or a compact. Hm in a way im looking for a gun that looks in a way like the one from xXx? thats the only movie I can think of with the type of look im looking for.

Thanks to everyone that answered my prior question first of all, it definitely cleared up a lot of things...

So, I have done some research and am thinking of going with the Glock 27 .40 Cal as my first gun handgun. I will be using this gun as a concealed weapon and was wondering if anyone who owned this model could fill me in on the good and the bad. Let me know how you feel about it. My mind is not 100 percent made up however. If anyone can suggest a gun of equivalent SIZE & POWER, let me know so I can take it into consideration.

So for those who have the glock 27, let me know if you like it.
For those making suggestions for other models, keep in mind that I will have this weapon on me for around 8 hours a day. So, it does have to be a sub compact gun while maintaining adequate power & accuracy.

Not looking to get a revolver...&
9mm is isn't enough & I don't want anything that shoots larger than .40

Thanks guys

I am almost 17 and looking for a inexpensive pistol or revolver. I know I don't want a compact and I like it to be $350 and under. I'd be 100% fine with a used. If you provide a link to a site that would make my day!
-thanks
So it's still illegal if my dad buys it and gives it to my for my upcoming birthday?

Im looking to buy a new handgun and I was wondering which one is better....The two im looking at the most are the Beretta PX4 Storm 45. ACP or the H&K USP Compact, which of these two guns are better in your opinion? thnx

I am looking for my first handgun, concealed carry for personal protection. I was looking into buying a Glock 26 or a Glock 19. I have fired both handguns at my local gun shop but, did not both. The Glocks did not feel right in my hand but the trigger pull was very smooth and easy. Lately, I have been looking at the Smith & Wesson M&P compact in 9mm, I really like the looks, weight, but the trigger pull is 10 lb oppose to the Glock 5.5 trigger pull. I was wondering if anyone has fired the S&W M&P compact to tell me how the trigger pull feels and any options on other handguns. Thank You for answering my question.

I've narrowed my search to a double action (not a DAO) 1911 style with de-cocking feature. Possible Compact, but may go for a "thinner" full size.

I certainly don't have $1,500 to throw at my first handgun.

I have more questions about my first gun experience, so if you are a guru that would like to help a young guy, please E-Mail me at YahooAnswers@Comcast.net

ANY suggestions of firearms would be well accepted; 1911 or not, de-cocking feature or not. Full size, compact or sub compact.
I'm using this to expedite my research, not substitute for putting the gun in my hands and firing some rounds. If you highly suggest it, I'll find it and shoot it.
I do have some experience with rifles and shotguns, and have purchased a 12 gauge Remington 870e as a gift. So in short, I've shot some rounds, very little from handguns, I don't own a gun and never have, so I'm not a total newbi. I do my research, and I will train methodically when I do get a pistol from shooting to maintenance.

I just got my conceal carry license and i borrowed my uncles .40 S&W to qualify. I have shot the following weapons and i like all 4 but can't decide which to buy : Glock 29 10mm sub-compact, glock .40, a glock .45, and a glock .357. I am a great shot but don't know much about handguns. I am mostly a rifle hunter so i have been around weapons and can handle large calibers and i know all about safety, i just don't know what all is out there in terms of handguns. can you tell me which of the 4 you would prefer, and put them in order in terms of stopping power. Maybe also you could explain your choices briefly? Thanks so much in advance. I have shot other brands but have come to find that i am just a glock kind of guy, i also like the springfield xd models though. and like i said, i am no amateur in terms of firearms, but just don't keep up with the handguns very much.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a more compact handgun-type pellet gun, but something with multiple shot capability (8 is fine). Anybody know of one? I haven't shot one since I was a kid, so I don't know brands, types or anything.

All the web sites I check out don't give any dimensions or weights...

Hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction!

Thanks.

I'm planning buying a handgun for concealed carry. Right now I'm looking at the H&K .45's I like the USP series but I'm not sure whether the USP or the USP compact would be better...I know the compact is smaller...but is the size reduction worth giving up four rounds of magazine space? Also if someone has another recommendation it would be appreciated. I'm looking for a medium sized gun for concealed carry ideally in .45 ACP with an 8-12 round magazine.

Which would be a better gun for CC? They are both 40 cal handguns. The m&p has a 3.5" barrel, and the Glock has a 4" barrel.

Ok, I will be getting a new 'toy' this Holiday but I have a dilemma. Now I don't know what model or brand of gun it would be, but I am either going to buy a .12 gauge pump shotgun (likely a Mossberg 500) or a 9mm handgun (Likely a Sig or Makarov).

I've been trying to weigh the pros and cons of both of them against eachother, here's what I can think of right now:

Shotgun pros:
-Simple action
-Fun as Hell
-Destructive
-Loud
-Looks Badass (hehe)
-Easy to clean(?)
-Large variety of ammos

Shotgun Cons:
-Expensive ammo
-Recoil can be a ****
-Not a good plinker obviously

Pistol Pros:
-Compact
-Can also be used as defense
-CHEAP AMMO
-I have a pistol fetish
-Cheap mags
-Can actually be used as a target practice weapon

Pistol Cons:
-Weak round (compared to other calibers)
-Could become obsolete
-May be prone to breakdown
-Good ones are expensive

Hope you guys can help me choose.
When I said "obsolete" I meant me getting bored of shooting it, which is what happened with my .22.

And someone wanted to know what I would be using it for; just plinking and shooting things.

I am looking to buy a large powerful semi auto pistol. I am only interested in semi auto so please do not suggest a revolver. How much is 10mm ammo. What gun best suits this caliber? I would prefer a small handgun like a compact or subcompact. How much recoil does the 10mm generate?

I am considering buying a handgun for taking to the range and for self/home-defense. I was wondering what model Glock would be the best for this. Yes, I was thinking pretty exclusively Glock, although if anyone has other suggestions I am willing to hear them. Anyways, as far as Glocks go, what should I go with? I was thinking either compact or full-size. G19? I would like the pros and cons of anything recommended please, especially as far as caliber is concerned. Also, if I get a 9mm, should I use hollow-tips for self-defense?
What is KE?

Never owned a shotgun, never shot one. But I've owned (and do still) a handgun or two and a rifle.

So I don't know anything about shotguns and need some advice. I want one to basically put away (shoot once and a while) for home defense and for emergency's. (been through the LA riots, wished I had one then)

Looking for a solid workhorse, no bells and whistles and narrowed it down the either the Moss 500 or Remington 870.

I'd like a compact, rugged one. What I really don't know about is the shot choice. It seems like there's a TON of different choices. 12 g, 20 g, diameter, plus a lot of different types of ammo.

Can someone explain these? What are the most common, cheapest to just store away and also maybe explain other useful ammo (non-lethal) etc...

Thanks in advance

What does Standard Compact Subcompact Competition and Compensator mean and stand for in handguns/pistols please help I do not know what they mean stand for and the difference in all of them please please help? (Not a Hunting question)
